Salvation

Have you ever wondered, what does it take to be saved?  Well, you are certainly not alone in this quest for salvation.  In the Bible, Luke tells the story of a jailer asking the Apostle Paul the same question.  Paul’s response was simple yet profound.  “Repent!”

Salvation is not about baptism or church attendance.  It is about a relationship with Jesus.  The question still begs to be answered.  That is what does it take?  How do I repent?  The Bible is very clear in this.  In Romans, there are several verses that Paul writes that instruct a person on what is necessary for Salvation.  Let us make this journey together.

First, we must understand that we are sinners.  Romans 3:10 states that as it is written:  “None is righteous, no, not one; (ESV)  This means that all people are sinners.  There are none that are righteous by nature.  Romans 3:23 for fall have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,(ESV).  Every person that has ever been born is sinful and that includes you and I.

After we understand that we are sinners we must understand that we need a savior.  Romans 6:23 states For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.(ESV)  God is very clear in His word that sin has a penalty and that penalty is death.

Fortunately, for us that penalty has been paid by Jesus’ death on the cross.  Romans 5:8 states, “but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”  (ESV)  God loved us so much that he made a way for salvation even before we accept it.  Now the question turns to, “What must I do?”  You have to believe.  Believe that Jesus is God’s Son, He was born, lived, crucified, and rose again.  In fact Romans 10:9-10 states, “because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.  10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (ESV)

The Bible says that you have to believe, and you have to ask.  Romans 10:13 states, “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (ESV)  It does not matter about the past or even how bad it may have been, the Bible promises that anyone that ask for salvation will receive it.

Maybe you are at a point and want to begin a relationship with Jesus.  All it takes is to believe and pray and ask Jesus.  Maybe you just are not sure what to pray.  Her is a sample:

Dear Lord,  I know that I am a sinner.  I understand that my sin carries the price tag of death.  I also know that Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for my sins.  Lord, I believe that you did this and I ask you to save me.  Come and live in my heart.  Lord Jesus, thank you for saving me.

If you prayed a prayer like this believing then Jesus saved you.  Now you need to tell someone.  Please call the church office or send us an email.  We would love to hear from you and provide you some free materials to help you in your new-found faith.
